"Oh, how I wish I could shut up like a telescope! I think I could, if I only knew how to begin."
For, you see, so many out-of-the-way things had happened lately, that Alice had begun to think that very few things indeed were really impossible.Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
It was the summer of 1862. The American Civil War raged on, and Garibaldi charged around the Aspromonte trying to unite Italy. Ice-cream machines and fish-and-chip shops were coming into vogue across the English-speaking world. As the first elevators were being installed in skyscrapers, and Edison patented his first light bulb, the Reverend Robinson Duckworth went on a boating trip with the three daughters of his boss, the Dean of Christ Church College. A fellow clergyman accompanied the group as they rowed up that stretch of the Thames near Oxford that is called Isis. It was the fourth of July: a date of no great significance to a Victorian boating party, but the events of that day would come to bring pleasure to readers all over the world, and even spill over into this metaworld of ours. For the entertainment of the Liddell children, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson - mathematics professor, logician, deacon, writer, and amateur photographer - wove them a story about a little girl and a white rabbit. He named the girl Alice.
Dodgson - better know by his pseudonym Lewis Carroll - published Alice in Wonderland in 1866 and six years later, Alice's Adventures Through the Looking-glass. The combination of numbers and nonsense, vivid characters and a plot struck through with the dream logic of childhood have made both books world-wide best sellers. They have been embraced, skewed, imitated and enlarged upon by numerous writers and artists.Enter a very special wonderland here in Second Life when you step onto the Jabberwocky sim by Surrealia Anatine. Far from Disney, this superior build with its hints of unfinished business celebrates both Alice books with style and mystery. It is a true work of art in a ... park. Just our cup of tea.
TP onto the island, and a colossal mantle clock looms into view. Panning back, one sees a plateau, almost a cake left in the rain, the checkerboard icing beginning to fade and turn, the whole sliced down the middle by a steely ramp inviting exploration. But beware of first impressions; if you imagine that the only way is up, you'll soon discover there is a downside of equal drama here.
On the black and white plain looms an uneasy industrial architecture touched by chess; well-chosen shops blend seamlessly with the overall design. The central tower with its red-streaked interior speaks of the wealth and misery of Hard Times; the red lights, crowns, and the nearby Red Queen boutique create a pleasing conflation of pastimes where all borders are blurred. I flew to the top of the tower, and observed another lone traveler far beneath me, strangely intent on riding the knight that circles the base... the white knight (but not the rider) can be seen below in the Italian part.

I am truly honored by this posting of yours. I don't think anyone has put into words so eloquently what I tried so hard to achieve with Jabberwocky- or understood it so completely.
Thank you so much!
