Terror at Sybirya

I mentioned in my last post the additions to the Verne collection, and builder Clematilde Oyen just sent me some pictures - it's spectacular! Enjoy them and her description in English and Italian... I'm willing to bet that *ArtsParks* is the only blog you'll see this week with the word 'fuseiform' in prominent use, and if you don't rejoice in it, well then, you're not the reader I took you for...
I found The Master of the World a cracking read I'm sure you will too. Forse come me ti verrà voglia di rileggere questo e altri romanzi di Verne, sono perfetti per le lunghe giornate in spiaggia, ma non dimenticare di visionare le macchine di Verne -versione SL a Sybirya. As promised the Sybirya is adding new things to its collection of wonderful machines and diorama dedicated to the french genius Jules Verne, one of the greatest storytellers of fantasy, capable of anticipating a hundred years years with his inventions. It is 'the turn of a machine from the novel "The master of the world", which is the sequel of the previous "Robur the conqueror". Visiting the Sybirya, on the right side of this huge flying island, you can admire the "Epouvante".

The "épouvante" is a fantastic machine generated by the imaginative genius of "Jules Verne" in the story: "The master of the world". This machine is able to make a real metamorphosis from terrestrial locomotion to marine locomotion, ship or submarine, and finally to airplane. It is fuseiforme, it able to gain very high speed (for the time of the story) and is led by a crew of two men and the extravagant "Captain Robur", so proud to self proclaim "master of the world" and to challenge the forces of nature: he will die together with his prodigious invention into the superb attempt to defy a hurricane.

Come promesso il Sybirya sta ingrandendo la sua collezione di meravigliose macchine e diorama dedicate al genio francese Jules Verne, uno dei più grandi narratori di fantasia capace di anticipare di un centinaio di anni i tempi con le sue invenzioni. E' la volta di una macchina tratta dal romanzo "Il padrone del mondo", che è un po' il seguito del precedente Robur il conquistatore. Visitando il Sybirya, sulla parte destra di questa enorme isola volante, potrete ammirare l'Epouvante.

Attenzione: di seguito viene rivelata, del tutto o in parte, la trama di "Il padrone del mondo".

L'épouvante è una macchina fantastica generata dal genio immaginifico di "Jules Verne" nel racconto: "Il padrone del mondo". Tale macchina è in grado di effettuare una vera e propria metamorfosi passando da mezzo di locomozione terrestre a mezzo di locomozione marino, nave o sommergibile ed infine aereo. Di forma fuseiforme, raggiunge altissime velocità (per l'epoca del racconto) ed è guidato da un equipaggio di due uomini e dallo stravagante "Capitano Robur", orgoglioso a tal punto da autodefinirsi "Padrone del mondo" e da sfidare le forze della natura: egli infatti morirà assieme alla sua prodigiosa invenzione nel superbo tentativo di sfidare un uragano.

Whew too much cake and soda, the party balloons are starting to deflate and I think the clown just threw up in the pool... so now we are five, and somewhat partied out. But just in case the summer is beckoning you away from your screen, let me give you a round-up of some upcoming events from friends of ArtsParks.
The Guild of UK Writers are putting their work on display in a Big Book of Poetry organized by Harriet Gausman. It's a wonderful way to encounter new work, especially if you're not always free to attend the weekly guild meetings and just would like to drop in to the Wood for some quality time with verse. Take a friend. You'll find the book at Milk Wood. For more writerly events going on in SL, you can IM Kghia Gherardi who puts out regular lists of all things English-literary.
Cristobal Fargis of Strong Visions has put together a new show at New Vision with work from German, Dutch, US and Italian artists. The note says: "In 400 m high over the gallery you can enter JURIA YOSHIKAWAs amazing Space Installation “Kaleidoscope Flowerchild Glowball” (TP and flyfeather in the Poster near the entrance)" Come on, how can you say no to that.
There are new delights at the Jules Verne park at Sybirya: the machine The Terror aka 'Epouvante' from the book The Master of the World ooo check out these pictures and then compare with Clematilde Oyen and Magica De Cuir's 3D version... there's also a rather fun doll's house at the Verne park, and for you out-doorsy types, a riding stable.
Arts against Wars and Ipazia Cortez are preparing an exhibition themed around Noah's ark at Porto Cervo The show will be called ARCA and poses the always cheerful question: Mankind is destroying itself, what can we do about it? The show is interactive and I'm sure many of you have thoughts on this topic, if you'd like to share, Ipazia would love to hear from you write her directly at corpore2002@libero.it and get involved!

Il calore estivo t'invita ad abbandonare la tastiera, lo so, ma se spegni adesso perdi le novità bellissime preparato dagli amici di ArtsParks.
Harriet Gausman del Guild of UK Writers questo mese offre al pubblico un Grande Libro di poesie scritte dai membri del gruppo, se non hai ancora avuto tempo di visitare Milk Wood, perché non farci un salto, il bosco è delizioso e il libro molto bello, sono davvero bravi questi poeti.

Park Jules Verne

Get out your Victorian walking shoes, put on your clockwork mustache, (don't laugh, you can get one free at Curio Obscura) and hurry over to Jules Verne Park at Sybirya.

The creation of Clematilde Oyen and Magica de Cuir as part of the ArtsParks movement, this is a gem of literary originality and 3D ingenuity. There's so much to see one visit won't do it justice, much like Verne's books, which include 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Around the World in 80 Days. Whew. That's a lot of adventure, and the park really brings it to life. Clematilde modestly credits the vivid descriptions in Verne's books. Check out the poster display in the gallery to your left when you TP into the garden. You'll find fast facts about Verne here, and lots to explore: the 'working room', a copy of Verne's study in Paris, where you can pick up a free ebook; in the garden you'll find the cannon and the spaceship from From the Earth to the Moon; and below, the observation deck based on the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea plus much more.
Magica and DJ Clematilde initially built their club Sybirya in the style of an abandoned Victorian warehouse. The elegant ingenuity of the era appealed to them both, a Verne theme seemed a natural choice. Clematilde is a fan of steampunk (she writes it too!) a post-modern sci-fi genre; the robots in the garden and the club decor are a tribute to Benoit Sokal and his work. She sees a parallel in the cyber- and steampunk genres and the equality and intellectual community that virtual worlds make possible.
Clematilde and Magica are working on the machine from The Master of the World, and a complete copy of the Nautilus. They hope to expand the park with more interactive machinery. Whether you ride the travel pods or simply walk around, use your cam to pan out to get the full effect of this magnificent park, and marvel at the prophetic words of Verne:"Anything one man can imagine, another man (or woman!) can make real."

Creare un luogo in cui tecnologia e fantasia si unissero all'eleganza dei tempi andati, questa l'idea dietro lo splendido Parco Jules Verne a Sybirya, creato da Clematilde Oyen e Magica De Cuir.
Originalissimo, il parco è dedicato a Verne, l'autore di 20,000 leghe sotto i mari, Viaggio al centro della terra, Il giro del mondo in 80 giorni. Il parco fa vivere le invenzioni, le sue idee innovative e proiettate al futuro, anche perché come dice Clematilde egli descrisse la tecnologia in modo così preciso da poterlo quasi vedere: testimone anche la collezione di immagini d'epoca troverai nella galleria a fianco dell'edificio principale. Sono state scelte per rendere giustizia al seguito che le sue opere hanno avuto nel mondo della letteratura e della cinematografia. Nella galleria ci sono informazioni sulla Vita e le opere di Verne, potrai anche visitare una copia esatta del suo studio parigino, qui troverai un libro elettronico gratuito: 20,000 leghe sotto i mari. Nel giardino ci sono il cannone e la navicella di Dalla Terra alla Luna e sotto troverai la sala controlli della Nautilus.

Il parco è nato dall'idea di costruire una discoteca (Clematilde fa la DJ) basata sullo stile vittoriano quello tipico della letteratura Verniana; una fabbrica abbandonata. Il club come anche l'ingresso è dedicato a Benoit Sokal. La sua opera multimediale (che alcuni chiamano gioco ma che tale non è per lo spessore narrativo), è molto simile al club il tutto gira intorno alla subculture Steampunk, una forma letteraria che si è affiancata al cyberpunk e alla fantascienza post moderna.
Attualmente Magica e Clematide stanno costruendo il veicolo de Il Padrone del Mondo e stanno finendo una copia dell'enorme sommergibile Nautilus. Se prendi il Pod (anche questa una invenzione di Verne) o semplicemente fai il giro a piedi, non dimenticare di usare il cam per vedere tutto ciò che ha da offrire questo magnifico parco. Sarete d'accordo con Verne quando disse: 'qualsiasi cosa un uomo può immaginare, un altro uomo (o donna!) può realizzare.'
Il futuro del loro parco? Vogliono ampliare il più possibile il tema Verniano, con maggiori dettagli e tutte le invenzioni. Se sarà possibile, vorrebbero creare un percorso avventuroso ambientato nelle storie di Verne con maggiore interattività con i visitatrori. Per Clematilde, i parchi letterari dovranno avere un seguito enorme perchè tutti leggono o vorrebbero e SL ci permette di visualizzare quello che si legge. Ma per lei, ci offre anche una nuova forma narrativa: il suo sogno è un'opera letteraria diversa: non più l'autore che crea il libro che poi diventa 3D in SL ma un'opera fatta direttamente in SL un mondo da visitare e vivere e che diventa scrittura più del cinema. Siamo tutti registi delle nostre avventure in SL e attori noi stessi: qui ci sono lands che sono poesia, altre sogni fatti realtà, e questa libertà, queste amicizie ci rendono migliori.

My fellow ArtsParkians: Meet Giuditta Broome our President! I spoke to her at ArtParks Center in Velinissimo, and asked: What inspired her to start the ArtsParks group?
Sports fan and art lover, initially Giuditta came to SL to start a soccer team. She's a member of the inworld team Fiorentina. She soon got interested in building, intrigued by the potential of expression possible in the virtual world.
Trips this summer to two literary parks, Parco Salvatore Quasimodo and Parco Pirandello, both in Sicily, as well as the 3D reconstructions seen on TV of places like the pyramids and Pompeii, got her thinking: why not use SL to illustrate in an accessible way the life and works of authors, musicians, and artists of all kinds? More than that, why not create a grid-wide Teleport network so that residents can visit virtual art places more easily? The first ArtsPark is dedicated to the 19th century French author Jules Verne.
ArtsParks has just completed a park to showcase the life and work of the Latin poet Catullus at Porto Cervo. The group actively seeks the participation of anyone who would like to set up an area celebrating an artist, from the well-known to emerging talent. Being part of the ArtsPark TP network has a commercial benefit for sim owners and storekeepers; building together fosters community spirit, and it is one more way to show that the virtual world is something more than an empty pastime. Parks can be of any size and anyone can share in the project, Giuditta pointed out, either by setting up an independent art space, or by donating space, skills, or thematic material - like authentic textures - related to a specific author or artist.

Cari amici di ArtsParks, vi presento la nostra presidente, Giuditta Broome! Ci siamo visti al Park Center a Velinssimo. Giuditta è entrata in SL ad agosto per fondare una squadra di calcio femminile. Le piace molto costruire... e giocare a calcio. Gioca anche nella Fiorentina.
Perché ArtsParks?
Giuditta: L'idea è nata dall'incontro tra una serie di circostanze: in RL ho visitato alcuni parchi letterari Parco Quasimodo e Parco Pirandello, e in SL ho cominciato a fare attività di building. Era inevitabile non pensare a quanto sarebbe stato interessante unire le due cose, letteratura e attività di building. Inoltre ho sempre seguito con interesse le ricostruzioni 3d di luoghi del passato come le Piramidi e Pompei, opere che fino a poco tempo fa venivano presentate come delle conquiste nel campo delle ricostruzioni virtuali! E ora in sl con pochi click noi possiamo dar vita a scenari bellissimi e entrare nelle opere di scrittori, poeti, musicisti, pittori...

Fare questo progetto in SL presenta quali vantaggi?
Giuditta: I vantaggi sono tanti: intanto rivivere e far rivivere a tutti coloro che frequentano SL esperienze interessanti dal punto di vista culturale, ma anche rivalutare lo strumento di SL che spesso è visto come un vuoto passatempo, poi incrementare le presenze nelle land senza per forza ricorrere a camping o freebies o chair... ma i vantaggi sono tantissimi e diversi per ognuno... io consiglio di visitare i nostri parchi per rendersi conto.
Puoi descrivere il primo parco? Qual'è l'elemento fondamentale di ArtsParks?
Giuditta: Il primo parco è dedicato a Jules Verne. Siamo partiti innanzitutto dalla vita di questo importante autore e poi ci siamo addentrati nelle opere, costuendo alcuni scenari dei romanzi, ma qui non approfondisco! Bisogna visitarlo! L'elemento fondamentale di ArtsParks è la creazione di una vasta rete tra tutti i nostri parchi... da qualsiasi parco sarà possibile visitare anche gli altri attraverso dei teleport.
Il gruppo ha appena finito un secondo parco, dedicato al poeta latino Catullo a Porto Cervo.
Come vedi il futuro di ArtsParks?

Giuditta: Voglio coinvolgere innanzitutto gli appassionati di arte e letteratura... ma anche i builder, gli owner delle land, i nuovi talenti che frequentano SL. Vogliamo parlare di tutti gli autori possibili e immaginabili, ma non è possibile, quindi rappresenteremo gli autori che via via incontreremo sul nostro cammino.
